Course Description

Comprising 10 audio-visual classes spanning over 7 hours, in this online course I guide you step-by-step through a complete introduction to astrology in a clear, straight-forward manner. The course is structured in a logical way, with each class building on the knowledge learned in previous ones so that regardless of previous experience, you will have a good grasp of the basics by the end of the course.

By using numerous charts of famous people, all of which you will see on screen real-time, I give examples of astrology in action at every step of the way – so you will not only be learning the fundamentals of what each sign, house, planet, aspect, element and mode means, but also how to apply this knowledge in a practical way.

This will enable you to gain greater self-understanding and realise that you are so much more than just your Sun sign. Yes, you may be a Gemini, but what house is the Sun in and how does it connect with the other planets? Where is your Moon, Mercury, Venus? Take this course to learn how all facets of your birth chart influence your basic character, motivations, challenges, talents and even the kinds of events and people that show up in your life.

Detailed Curriculum

Class 1 - Philosophy and Overview (22:24)
a) An introduction to what the planets, signs, houses, aspects and elements mean in astrology.
b) A discussion of the philosophy of astrology - what astrology is and how it is that the position of the planets when you were born can so accurately describe your personality and what happens in your life.

Class 2 - The Chart (25:50)
a) A visual example and explanation of what all of the symbols, numbers, sectors and points of the astrology chart mean
b) An animated example of the motion of the planets through the houses and signs of the chart.

Class 3 - The Elements and Modes (45:07)
The importance and meaning of the four elements - Fire, Earth, Air and Water, and the three modes - Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable, using the example chart of Sean Connery.

Class 4 - The Planets (part one) (44:21)
The Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars - Detailed descriptions of what aspects of our lives are symbolised by these 5 planets. Example chart comes from Sean Connery.

Class 5 - The Planets (part two) (42:41)
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto - Detailed descriptions of what aspects of our lives are symbolised by these 5 planets. Example chart comes from Robbie Williams.


Class 6 - The Signs (part one) (43:52)
Detailed descriptions of the nature of the first six signs of the zodiac - Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo and Virgo, using examples from Princess Diana, Salvador Dali and others.

Class 7 - The Signs (part two) (53:55)
Detailed descriptions of the nature of the final six signs of the zodiac - Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces, using examples from John Lennon, Abraham Lincoln, Kurt Cobain and others.

Class 8 - The Houses (66:10)
Detailed descriptions of which areas of our lives are indicated by the 12 houses, with examples from Abraham Lincoln and Danica Patrick.

Class 9 - The Aspects (63:58)
Detailed description of the five major aspects in astrology (Conjunction, Sextile, Trine, Square and Opposition) and how they help to bring the chart together as an integrated whole, using examples from the charts of Princess Diana and Abraham Lincoln.

Class 10 - Nodes of the Moon and Twelve Letter Alphabet (25:01)
An introduction to how the Nodes of the Moon indicate our life direction, followed by a discussion of the Twelve Letter Alphabet of Astrology and how we can use this to simplify the complexity of the chart.

Your Instructor

Mark Flaherty is a consultant astrologer with clients in over 50 countries. He has studied with Dr Geoffrey Cornelius, former President of the Astrological Lodge of London, and Bob Mulligan of the Astrology Company, Florida. He is adept at translating the astrological symbols into simple English so that everybody can use this information to better understand themselves and live happier, more fulfilling lives.
